Kaymar is committed to providing safe care to our clientele. We strive to continually improve patient safety though our practices.  You also have a very important part to play in receiving safe health care.

Here are some steps to take that will allow you to take responsibility for your safety:

Communicate with health care providers

Provide Information:

  • Provide information on your health and any pertinent medical problems to your health care provider and report any changes in your condition.

Ask questions:

  • Don´t be afraid to ask questions- your health care provider wants you to understand. Write down any questions so that you don´t forget to ask during your visit. You could also write down the answers so that you can review them after the visit.    Ask a family member or friend to be present for your appointment. It is easy to get overwhelmed by information, especially if you are ill.

Understand your treatment plan and instructions:

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you understand any instructions given to you by your health care provider. If you don´t understand, ask questions.
  • Inform your health care provider if you expect or experience any difficulty in following the instructions.
  • Make sure you understand and can read any written instructions given to you.
  • Know how to contact your health care provider if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Participate in decision making:

  • Be an active participant in your health care. This means educating yourself about your condition so that you can participate in the decision making process. The more informed you are, the better prepared you are to make decisions.  It also means that you need to involve yourself in understanding your options and that you communicate your wishes to your health care provider. Kaymar therapists will help you with this by sharing information about your treatment plan-the ‘what´ and the ‘why´ of the options available to you. Ask questions of your health care provider- they want you to be informed!

Infection Prevention and Control in the Home Care Environment:

Kaymar has policies in place to safeguard your safety. These include policies on infection control.  Part of our infection control strategy is using ‘routine practices´. This refers to the fact that every health care worker should take the following precautions with every patient to reduce the risk of transmitting infection between patients:

  • wash their hands with soap or a hand sanitizer before and after any patient contact
  • wear disposable gloves when potential exists to encounter blood or body fluids
  • cover cuts or scratches with a bandage until healed
  • dispose of contaminated material in a prescribed manner
  • use of gown / mask / face shield in a situation where blood or body fluids may be splashed or transferred to the health care provider

Health care workers also have ‘additional precautions´ to follow in the event of the presence of certain known or suspected infections.   These precautions are designed to protect patients and are an important part of illness prevention.
